Mexicana

I've been celebrating my true Latina roots over the past couple of days. Just kidding, I'm not Latina (even though some people think I look like I am) but you would think I grew up in Mexico considering the amount of Mexican food I've been eating over the past couple of days.

Taco Tuesday
Back to the Starbucks, are you really surprised? I doubt it. The Mojo Mountain Mix bar was a new one for me. It was pretty decent, but I'm not a fan of chocolate (i know i'm crazy) and it had lots of dark chocolate chips.
I had to drive up to LA w/ mi madre for a doctor's appointment, which was a good excused to stop by Whole Foods afterwards for an early lunch.
I had the setian sandwich which was super tasty. It had lots of creamy vegenaise, spinach, sliced cucmbers, and grilled seitan. Nom, nom, nom.
When I saw the sign for 'Kombucha on tap' I wasn't expecting it to be literally on tap... this was even better than being at a real bar (maybe that's pushing it).
I had a mix of both (ginger & berry). 20 oz of deliciousness.
The Kombucha almost held off my appetite until the evening, save for a couple of dates that semi resemble cockroaches. Ick!
Later on I met up with Cami at the Balboa Bay Club and had a tea party.
For dinner I met up w/ Dru and Rav and we dined at El Ranchito. Of course this entailed eating a redonkulous amount of chips, guac, & salsa.
Dru made friends w/ the waitress and convinced her to hook me u w/ a $2 veggie taco. It had grilled peppers, shrooms, and onions.
Post dinner we were feeling stuffed but miraculously were able to wobble ourselves next door to enjoy watching the sunset at The Rooftop. This place has the most amazing view of the ocean in Laguna Beach. We tried to get in before dinner but the wait was 45 minutes.
Long island ice tea, mojto, and a diet coke for me because I was the DD- drinking & driving is never cool.
Even though I wasn't drinking I did snag some of the sugar cane off of Raveena's drink. Check out the scowl on Dru's face, she looks a bit upset haha.
Rav & Me

Cinco De Mayo
I started my day off w/ a Starbucks on my way back up to UCLA for another Dr appointment errr. Once again we made a trip to Whole Foods for lunch afterwards; this time I went to the salad bar.
Salad with tomatoes, spinach, kale, onions, corn, edamame, olives. Carbage on the side consisting of Israeli couscous and Indian couscous.
All drenched in a mix of tahini & honey mustard dressing. This was so filling I couldn't eat it all in one sitting & ended up munching on the rest of the greens during the car ride home.
Of course I had some more Kombucha on tap, this time all ginger.

More ice coffee! My second one of the day- I couldn't resist the Starbucks in the grocery store when we were shopping for our Cinco De Mayo dinner.
mmm Cerveza con limon
Look at how pretty our Cinco de Mayo table is...

I had lots of salad, tortilla chips, and a burrito.
This burrito was filled to the brim with meatless ground 'meat', mexican rice, guac, & salsa. It was drenched in hot sauce.
Even though I didn't have any dessert these cupcakes were too cute to not take a pic of them.
Hello cute little monkeys.

Hasta Luego

Cami and I had a little unplanned coffee date at Starbucks this morning. I swear soon I'm going to go back to making my own coffees in the morning and stop wasting so much plastic.

Venti ice coffee w/ sf hazlenut & soy milk
Luna White Chocolate Macadamia Nut (my 2nd favorite Luna- tastes like desert)

Afterwards I drove all the way out to Thousand Oaks to get a mani/pedi. I love living in Malibu because it's so beautiful, but there are no practical stores here only designer clothing stores & nice restaurants. In order to get your nails done or make a run to Target you have to drive thirty minutes away to the home of everything commercial and chain-run.... Thousand Oaks. I listened to some Santigold to keep me company on the drive- she's the best, I saw her perform a year ago at a musical festival in Australia and it was outrageous.

Check out my manicure (i'll spare you from having to see my feet too). Love this color by OPI, it's a nice change for Spring & different from my usual dark colors.
One of the good things about being in T.O is that I was able to make a stop by Whole Foods. After reading about their Hot Bar from this girl, I was dying to try it.

Broccoli, marinated artichoke hearts, hummus, dolmas, lentils w/ raisins & walnuts, Indian cous cous, Moroccan lentils, & corn bread(?)
Everything was insanely delicious except for the corn bread thingy which I mistakenly thought was a falafel, it was totally inedible. I enjoyed eating this while sitting at Whole Foods and people watching, by the time I walked to the car though the weather did a 180 and it was pouring.
In the car I enjoyed some kombucha.

This was the first time that I have tried the Multi-Green flavor. Even though it completely exploded it's swamp green contents all over my face, this now may become one of my faves.
After advanced stats I came home and enjoyed this guy....

Then I started in on packing, because guess what? I'm going to Cancun manana yey!!! Pepperdine in sending me to present at the Western Psychological Association conference for research that I have been working on with faculty & some grad students. I am very excited/nervous. I also have finals the week I get back, so basically I will be lying out and memorizing flashcards when I'm not presenting and listening presentations.
I got all of my packing done (including a bunch of luna bars) & practiced for my presentation.

A little later I made dinner...

TJ's Soba Noodles. I added 1/2 peas, the rest of the chickenless chicken strips from TJ's, and the sauce I made the other night.

Very Yummy. Will be buying these soba noodles again.

Get ready for lots of pictures of Mexican food. I'm off to bed early, my flight leaves at 8 am, meaning I have to wake up at 5 am! Eek! Can't wait to be here...

Quick & Effortless

On my drive back from Ojai this morning I stopped by Starbucks & grabbed a venti iced coffee w/ soy milk and sugar-free hazelnut syrup and a Kind bar. As always they spelled my name wrong with an "I" and not an "A", at least it wasn't spelled with a "K" like they sometimes do. I had never tried a Kind Bar before; this one was cranberry and almond. It was pretty good- chewy and very nutty- but I normally prefer a bar with a grain in it. I don't know if it was because I was taking pictures of my food or because I just looked that awful from the night before (I only got about 5 hours of sleep), but everyone kept staring at my friend, Cami, and me like we were crazy.... oh well, you can't win them all.

For lunch I also tried something quick, new & effortless. This time it was Trader Joe's Frozen Channa Masala. I just nuked it really quick, and ate it with 1/2 of an ezekiel pita. It was delicious. Indian food is by far my favorite type of food and for being frozen it was great- spicy & oily, but not too bad on calories considering (360).

Before class I stopped and grabbed one of these babies...
Komucha in Rasberry Rush flavor. This fellow blogger turn me onto them awhile back, and I love drinking them but they are just so darn expensive that I can't justify paying that amount of cash. Check out my super cool tights though from Forever 21.

Dinner consisted of this above very green and busy salad: TJ's herb salad mix, 1/4 cup garbanzo beans, asparagus, 1/4 cup corn, baby carrots, and 1/2 small avo w/ a tablespoon of spicy peanut vinaigrette. I was still a bit hungry afterwards so I had the other half of my Ezekiel pita w/ a scoop of red pepper hummus, BBQ sauce, and sprouts.

I finished off the night w/ a soy ice cream sandwich, these things are the best only 90 calories and they satisfy any type of sweet tooth you are having.
